Watch minimal and ghostly Producer Shlohmo and Jeremih work together on their new track Bo Peep from Yours Truly.

I’ve been a fan of Shlohmo since tracking down one of his songs from a Youtube video where it had been used. Since then he has become a regular on the speakers at mine, this newest track sees him collaborate with artist Jeremih after the success of his remix of Fuck U All The Time.
Yours Truly seemed to be at the right place at the right time and managed to capture these two writing and recording Bo Peep (Do U Right) and provides an awesome insight into the making of a record. A true reflection of creating music rather than those terrible script shots of a band in a studio – this film captures the hard work and late nights that you don’t see.

Watch it and enjoy.

Jón Helgi Hólmgeirsson’s wood and paper Gramophone, Jónófón, is about as analogue as you can get in design and music.

Graduating from Iceland Academy, Jón Helgi Hólmgeirsson is a product designer with an eye for design. His most celebrated idea is Jónófón – a flat-pack DIY Gramophone for records. No technology, it’s a very well executed piece consisting of a small motor, plywood stands and a paper trumpet, he aims to put these kits into construction which would allow my generation to experience an older technology re-invented for the modern age. It’s simple construction ensures that just glancing at it you know how to put it together and how the idea of music and vibrations work – science through creation I guess.
Check it out here and keep up to date with the project.

Times are hard, here’s how you can turn your vegetables into musical instruments before you cook them courtesy of J.Viewz.

One of the great things about technology is that you have the power to transform everyday objects into amazing interactive things. Brooklyn based Producer J.Viewz has taken the MakeyMakey, a device that allows you to interact with the world and create digitally, and used it to wire up a bunch of musical ingredients. The result is a short but wonderful snippet of Teardrops by Massive Attack played with vegetables and fruit.
Why not have a go at your own MakeyMakey contraption and order yourself the kit here - www.makeymakey.com

Check out this incredibly well directed and produced film for Vassilis Lazarides guitar workshop shot by Deep Green Sea.

On The How To Project we post a lot of ‘making of’ videos but I don’t think we’ve ever posted a film quite like this one. The production values are incredible. Shot in a fast paced duet with a Flamenco guitar this video beautifully illustrates the craft, and not to mention the number of hours, that goes into one of Lazarides Guitars. It has this kind of Spike Jonze whimsical feel about it partly due to the hand drawn typography and partly due to the diagrams overlaid as Vassilis works.
Definitely check out more of their work at www.deepgreensea.net and their entire The Art Of Making series at www.theartofmaking.net
